Mango allows you to send “detailed” or “narrative” style invoices, depending on how much you want to share with the client. This article shows examples of each included template, to help you decide on which to use.

Sample Invoice Templates

The following Invoice Templates are available in Mango.

Narrative

This invoice includes descriptions of each invoice line item.

Narrative, Summary by Engagement

This invoice includes descriptions of each invoice line item, grouped and summarized by engagement.

Narrative, Detail by Engagement

This invoice includes descriptions and amounts of each invoice line item, grouped and summarized by engagement.

Narrative, w/ Mini-Statement

This invoice includes descriptions and amounts of each invoice line item, and includes a summary of outstanding invoices.

Detail

This invoice includes detailed time records and the hours, rate, and amount of each.

Detail, No Rate

This invoice includes detailed time records and the hours and amount of each, but excludes the rate.

Detail, No Rate/Time

This invoice includes detailed time records and the amount of each, but excludes the rate and hours.

Detail, No Rate/Time/Amount

This invoice includes detailed time records, but excludes the rate, hours, and amount of each.

Narrative Simple, No Detail Amounts

This invoice includes the engagement name, as well as the period of the service.

Narrative Simple, w/ Detail Amounts

This invoice includes the engagement name, the period of the service, and the amount for that engagement.

Narrative Simple – No Remit

This invoice includes the engagement name and the period of the service, without the payment remittance text.

Detail Summary by activity grouped by engagement

This invoice includes the activity name and amounts, grouped by engagement.

Narrative Invoice Summary by Activity

This invoice includes the activity name and amounts, as well as a summary of outstanding invoices.

Common Questions About Invoice Templates

Which invoice template will be used when creating an invoice for a client?
The Default Invoice Template selected on the Settings tab of the Client View determines what invoice template will be used when creating an invoice. Additional information can be found in the Clients View article. You can set what the value for the Default Invoice Template field will be for new clients on the Invoices tab of General Settings. Additional information can be found in the Invoice Settings article.
How can we change the standard message, as shown in several of the sample templates?
A default standard message can optionally be defined on the Invoices tab of General Settings, and can be overridden in Recurring Invoice or Batch Invoicing. Additional information can be found in the Invoice Settings, Recurring Invoice, and Batch Invoicing articles.
When we create an invoice, why does it include a line starting with “Professional services…”?
The Narrative templates grouped by engagement (Narrative, Summary by Engagement and Narrative, Detail by Engagement) include this line:

Additionally, the Narrative Simple templates (Narrative Simple, No Detail Amounts, Narrative Simple, w/ Detail Amounts, and Narrative Simple – No Remit) include this line:

Professional services rendered in the preparation of:

To exclude this text, choose a different invoice template.
